HERBAL COFFEE

This herbal coffee has quickly become a morning favorite in our home. Its floral aroma fills the kitchen and the sacred act of grinding, brewing, and pouring fresh coffee grounds serves as a reminder to choose (in those early morning moments we have to ourselves, and every moment after) slow nourishment & self-peace. The herbal allies included in this recipe are:

01  Marshmallow root / an herb native to western asia, northern africa, and europe that gained its name from famously growing in damp / marsh-like environments such as the sea, along riverbanks, and salt marshes. It contains a
plethora of properties that can boost skin health – such as polysaccharides and flavonoids associated with tissue repair. It is often used as a natural remedy to treat infections, aid digestion, and improve skin health.

02  Calendula / also known as ‘pot marigold’ – Calendula has been used in teas for centuries due to its water soluble polysaccharides and saponins. It’s also been known to heal stomach ulcers and treat minor inflammation. Other active benefits of Calendula include its terpenoids, quercetin, flavonoids, and polyphenols which are antioxidants as well as anti-inflammatory agents.

03  Dandelion root or leaf / Dandelion tea has been used to promote liver function in holistic medicine for centuries. Another skin-loving benefit is its potassium content (helpful in regulating blood sugar) as seen in this study, which reported: “Dandelion leaves are also believed to have a positive effect on the cardiovascular system due to their high potassium content (397 mg potassium/100 g)”. For mamas to be, we recommend opting for the dandelion herb leaves as the root has not been as extensively studied or deemed ‘pregnancy safe’ – but don’t shy away from this liver loving herb altogether!
